Taxonomy
Heliospongia houchangensis was named by Deng (1982). Its type specimen is NIGP 67153 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 3GP1-68F10, Houchang, Ziyun County, which is in a Guadalupian marine limestone in the Maokou Formation of China.
