Carabus agassizi was named by Barthelemy-Lapommeraye (1846).

It was recombined as Calosoma (Callisthenes) agassizi by Oustalet (1874); it was recombined as Calosoma agassizi by Theobald (1937), Piton and Théobald (1939), Nel (1989).
