Taxonomy
Basilemys gaffneyi was named by Sullivan et al. (2012). It is not extant. Its type specimen is USNM 11084 (nearly complete carapace and plastron). Its type locality is 2 Miles Above Hunter's Store, which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Kirtland Formation of New Mexico.
