Diagnosis

|---|---|---|
| R. E. Weems and A. E. Sanders 2014 | So far as known, most elements are similar to P. grandaeva. Characteristics that distinguish P. charlestonensis from P. grandaeva are the relatively narrower costals and relatively wider vertebral scutes in the new species. Both species of Procolpochelys have supernumerary neurals and exceptionally thick costals and neurals that are unsculptured or only faintly sculptured on their dorsal surface. In these traits, both species differ from Carolinochelys wilsoni and Ashleychelys palmeri. |
