Araxathyris lata was named by Grunt (1965). Its type specimen is PIN 2073/620 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Transcaucasathyris lata by Garbelli and Angiolini (2014), Ghaderi et al. (2015), Viaretti et al. (2021).
