Microscytinella radians was named by Wootton (1963). Its type specimen is BMNH In.44920, a tegmen, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Mount Crosby Insect Bed (Tillyard BMNH collection), which is in a Norian lacustrine - small shale in the Mount Crosby Formation of Australia.
