Taxonomy
Anas marila was named by Linnaeus (1761). It is extant. It is the type species of Marila.

It was recombined as Marila marila by Hay (1930); it was recombined as Aythya marila by Alvarez (1977), Broughton (2004), Clements et al. (2017).
