Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
W. W. Korth and B. E. Bailey 2006Larger in size than contemporaneous agnotocastorines and palaeocastorines. Derived castoroidine cranial features—divergent tooth rows; grooved palate; premolar larger than molars; stapedial foramen lost in bulla; posterior palatine foramen within palatine-max- illary suture. Primitive agnotocastorine features—contact of jugal bone with lachrymal; more elongated rostrum; incisors more procum- bent; cheek teeth mesodont and rooted; mesostriid only lingual striid on P4; parafossettid on P4 maintains anterior opening until moderate wear; cheek teeth maintain primitive pattern of three fossettes (-ids), no indication of S-pattern of more advanced genera.
W. W. Korth 2017Hystricopine; markedly smaller and less robust than species of Hystricops; anterior enamel surface on i1 gently convex, cross-section longer than wide; cheek teeth slightly lower-crowned.
