Taxonomy
Miotingis cantalensis was named by Nel (1992). Its type specimen is MNHN IPM-R.10395, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Sainte-Reine, Foufouilloux outcrop (MNHN collection), which is in a Messinian crater lake marl in France. It is the type species of Miotingis.
