Vincularia berningi was named by Di Martino and Taylor (2014). Its type specimen is NHMUK PI BZ 6043 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TF110 Bontang, which is in a Tortonian reef, buildup or bioherm claystone in Indonesia.
