Cucullemys crocheti was named by Hervet (2004). Its type specimen is UM2-STL MOL1, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Molières (Cucullemys crocheti type locality), which is in a Rupelian terrestrial horizon in France. It is the type species of Cucullemys.
