Taxonomy
Scomber cubanicus was named by Danil'chenko (1960). Its type specimen is PIN 484/11 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Khadyzhenskaya RR Station, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in the Russian Federation.

K. A. Monsch and A. F. Bannikov 2011Space between dorsal fins slightly longer than base of first dorsal fin. This fin has 16–17 pterygiophores, last seven of which not bearing spines. Haemal spine 2 thicker than first and almost sickle-shaped.
