Trakymys saratji was named by Unay-Bayraktar (1989). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kavakdere, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial claystone in the Lignite-Sandstone Formation of Turkey. It is the type species of Trakymys.
