Zeilleria waiohipaensis was named by MacFarlan (2016). Its type specimen is OU 15259, a shell, and it is a mold. Its type locality is McF F51, Waiohipa Stream (R16/f082), which is in an Oxfordian marine sandstone in New Zealand.
