Crenilabrus szajnochae was named by de Zigno (1887). Its type specimen is IGUP 6898, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Symphodus szajnochae by Eastman (1904); it was recombined as Eolabroides szajnochae by Bellwood (1999); it was misspelled as Bradyurus szainochae by Carnevale et al. (2014); it was recombined as Bradyurus szajnochae by Bannikov and Zorzin (2012), Bannikov (2014).
