Congorhynchus was named by Darteville and Casier (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes T Eo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Blochiidae by Schultz (1987); and to Acanthomorpha by Sepkoski (2002).
