Labrodon was named by Gervais (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Perciformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Labridae by Chapman (1918), Chapman and Cudmore (1924), Bohm (1926), Leriche (1942), Deraniyagala (1968), Vicens and Rodríguez-Perea (2003), Oyanadel-Urbina et al. (2021).
