It was assigned to Chelydrinae by Cope (1870); to Cheloniidae by Lynch and Parham (2003), Joyce et al. (2004), Brinkman et al. (2009), Jalil et al. (2009), Mateus et al. (2012), de Lapparent de Broin et al. (2014); and to Pancheloniidae by Parham (2005), Parham et al. (2014), Weems (2014), Ullmann and Carr (2021).

The other peripherals to the eleventh probably not suturally connected with the disk of the carapace. No pit in the second peripheral for the hyoplastron. A pit in the eleventh peripheral for the rib of eight costal. Plastron probably resembling that of Osteopygis, but not extending so far along the peripherals. | |

Distinguished from other cheloniids based on a broad skull, low skull profile, broad and flat triturating surface, and wide, flat dentary with an elongate symphysis. |
