Taxonomy
Euclastes melii was named by Misuri (1910). Its type specimen is [Collection unknown], a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pietra Leccese, which is in a Burdigalian/Messinian transition zone/lower shoreface limestone in the Pietra Leccese Formation of Italy.

It was recombined as Procolpochelys melii by Chesi and Delfino (2006).
