Taxonomy
Kestrosaurus was named by Haughton (1925). It is not extant. Its type is Kestrosaurus dreyeri.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Damiani (2001) and Damiani and Rubidge (2003).
It was assigned to Parotosuchidae by Schoch and Milner (2000); and to Capitosauridae by Haughton (1925), Welles and Cosgriff (1965), Chernin (1978), Carroll (1988) and Shishkin et al. (2004).
It was considered a nomen dubium by Damiani (2001) and Damiani and Rubidge (2003).
It was assigned to Parotosuchidae by Schoch and Milner (2000); and to Capitosauridae by Haughton (1925), Welles and Cosgriff (1965), Chernin (1978), Carroll (1988) and Shishkin et al. (2004).
