It was assigned to Batrachia by Cope (1876); to Urodela by Hay (1902); to Scapherpetonidae by Auffenberg and Goin (1959), Estes (1964), Estes and Berberian (1970), Estes (1976), Carroll (1988), Bryant (1989), Sullivan (1991), Peng et al. (2001); and to Scapherpetontidae by Estes (1969), Estes (1981), Naylor and Krause (1981), Gardner (2012), DeMar (2013).
