Taxonomy
Saurosuchus was named by Reig (1959). It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Prestosuchidae by Charig (1967) and Parrish (1993); to Rauisuchidae by Kuhn (1966), Carroll (1988) and Long and Murry (1995); to Paracrocodyliformes by Weinbaum and Hungerbühler (2007); to Rauisuchia by Trotteyn et al. (2011); and to Loricata by Nesbitt (2011).
