Taxonomy
Purpura milicentana was named by Loel and Corey (1932) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; California.]. Its type specimen is UCMP 31886, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP Loc. 6128, Arroyo Trabuco, Santa Ana Mountains, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
It was recombined as Ocenebra milicentana by Addicott (1970).
