Mycterosaurus
Taxonomy
Mycterosaurus was named by Williston (1915). It is not extant. Its type is Mycterosaurus longiceps. It is the type genus of Mycterosaurinae.
It was assigned to Glaucosauridae by Hay (1930); to Pelycosauria by Romer (1936); to Nitosauridae by Romer and Price (1940), Lewis and Vaughn (1965); to Varanopseidae by Reisz (1986), Carroll (1988); to Mycterosaurinae by Modesto et al. (2001), Maddin et al. (2006); and to Varanodontinae by Spindler et al. (2018).
