Cyphaspis heissae was named by Van Viersen and Prescher (2014) [Paratypes. PWL-2014 01b, complete? specimen (Fig. 2C) on
other side of the rock slab that bears the holotype; PWL-2014

specimen (unfigured).]. Its type specimen is PWL-2014 01a, an exoskeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hillersheim Syncline, Ahbach Fm, which is in a Givetian shallow subtidal limestone in the Ahbach Formation of Germany.
