Groeberia was named by Patterson (1952). It is not extant. Its type is Groeberia minoprioi. It is the type genus of Groeberiidae.

It was assigned to Groeberiidae by Simpson et al. (1962), McKenna and Bell (1997), López (2010); and to Gondwanatheria by Chimento et al. (2015).
