Taxonomy
Scaphokogia totajpe was named by Benites-Palomino et al. (2020). Its type specimen is MUSM 973, a partial skull (subcom- plete cranium, including the tympanic bulla, but lacking mandible & periotic), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sud Sacaco, Montemar, which is in a Messinian paralic siltstone in the Pisco Formation of Peru.
