Thryonomyoidea was named by Pocock (1922) [authorship based on principle of coordination; apparently first used at this rank by Wood 1955]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Phiomorpha by Carroll (1988), Huchon and Douzery (2001); and to Ctenohystrica by Coster et al. (2010).
