Vicissicaudata was named by Ortega-Hernandez et al. (2013). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2017).

It was reranked as the superclass Vicissicaudata by Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2017).

It was assigned to Artiopoda by Ortega-Hernandez et al. (2013); and to Artiopoda by Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2017).
