Scelidodon chiliense
Taxonomy
Scelidotherium chiliense was named by Lydekker (1886). Its type specimen is NHMUK 2819, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pampa del Tamarugal (near Pica), which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Chile.
It was corrected as Scelidotherium chilensis by Lydekker (1886); it was corrected as Scelidotherium bolivianum by Philippi (1893); it was recombined as Scelidodon chiliensis by Oliver Schneider (1926) and Pujos (2000); it was recombined as Scelidodon bolivianum by Oliver (1934); it was recombined as Scelidodon chiliense by Marshall and Salinas Z (1991) and Miño-Boilini et al. (2009); it was recombined as Catonyx chiliensis by Corona et al. (2013).
