Cosoryx (Paracosoryx) was named by Frick (1937) [named as a subgenus of Cosoryx by Frick 1937; implicitly transferred to Merycodus by Gregory 1942; retained in Cosoryx by Skinner and Taylor 1967, Kelly and Lander 1988; raised to genus level]. Its type is Cosoryx wilsoni.
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Merycodus by Simpson (1945); it was reranked as Paracosoryx by Janis and Manning (1998) and Davis (2007).
It was assigned to Cosoryx by Frick (1937); to Merycodontinae by Janis and Manning (1998); and to Antilocapridae by Davis (2007).
