Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. N. Biewer et al. 2020Pontolis barroni, sp. nov. differs from other species of Pontolis by having postcanine teeth with minor to moderate wear (c. 82[1]). It can be further differentiated from Po. kohnoi by a dorsoventrally thick, laterally broad ptery- goid strut (c. 13[2]), lacking a supraorbital process of the frontal (c. 16[1]), and a double-rooted M1 (c. 77[1]). It can be further dif- ferentiated from cf. Po. magnus by having a mandibular condyle at or slightly above level of tooth row (c. 47[0]), a medial shelf of the angular process (c. 49[1]), an anteroposteriorly short coro- noid process (c. 50[0]), presence of a posterior crista in the lower canines (c. 57[0]; unknown in Po. kohnoi), lower postcanines with well-developed paraconid cusps (c. 66[0]), and lower postcanines with a reduced metaconid (c. 70[1]; unknown in Po. kohnoi).
