Thais kettlemanensis was named by Arnold (1909). Its type specimen is USNM 165585, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Kelletia (Kelletia) kettlemanensis by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Calicantharus kettlemanensis by Addicott (1970).
