Epitriplopus was named by Wood (1927). It is not extant. Its type is Prothyracodon uintensis.
It was assigned to Triplopodinae by Simpson (1945); to Hyracodontinae by Prothero and Schoch (1989), Prothero (1998); and to Hyracodontidae by Wood (1927), Carroll (1988), Wang et al. (2016).
