Taxonomy
Lechusa stirtoni was named by Miller (1956). Its type specimen is UCMP 45331, a limb element, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is San Diego Formation ("Lower"), which is in a Piacenzian foreshore horizon in the San Diego Formation of California.
