It was assigned to Mammutoidea by Maglio (1973), Carroll (1988); to Elephantiformes by Shoshani and Tassy (1996); to Elephantoidea by Lambert and Shoshani (1998); and to Elephantoidea by Sanders (1999), Shoshani and Tassy (2005), Shoshani et al. (2006).
