Taxonomy
Belliscala petra was named by Squires and Saul (2003). Its type specimen is LACMIP 12994 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP loc. 24246, Oak Run, which is in a Santonian marine sandstone in the Redding Formation of California.

R. L. Squires and L. R. Saul 2003A Belliscala with approximately 18 axial ribs on last whorl, axial and spiral ribs moderately spaced and moderately swollen. Strong development of a finer interrib between spiral ribs on most of shell. Intersections of axial and spiral ribs with low nodes. Axial ribs weak to moderately weak on base of last whorl.
