Taxonomy
Mesostoma newcombii was named by Squires and Saul (2003). Its type specimen is GSC 5928 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hemiacirsa newcombii by Ludvigsen and Beard (1994); it was recombined as Confusiscala newcombii by Squires and Saul (2003).
