Bannikov et al. 2019A percomorph fish unique in having the following combination of characters: discoid body physiognomy; vertebrae 8+13=22; neural and haemal spines of middle region of vertebral column broad and relatively vertically oriented; many abdominal vertebrae with long, broad parapophyses; pleural ribs vertically oriented, relatively short and slender, present on third to eighth vertebrae; all five hypurals, parhypural, and haemal spines of PU2 and PU3 autogenous; caudal fin rounded, 1,7-7,1, with five procurrent rays above and six below; dorsal fin long and continuous, with number of spines uncertain but probably seven; 23 to 24 dorsal-fin rays; first dorsal-fin ptery- giophore in preneural space; no vacant interneural spaces; anal fin with three spines of graduated length and about 20 rays; dorsal and anal rays with small lateral spinules; single postcleithrum; scales small, with a single upright spiny spinule (perhaps more in larger specimens); a slightly enlarged scale on the caudal peduncle.
