Taxonomy
Heterenchelys regularis was named by Stinton (1957). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Princetown near, Miocene, which is in a Langhian marine horizon in the Gellibrand Formation of Australia.

It was recombined as Rhynchoconger regularis by Schwarzhans (1985).
