Taxonomy
Petrosaltator was named by Dumbacher et al. (2016) [authorship of taxon ascribed to Rathbun and Dumbacher]. It is extant. Its type is Elephantulus rozeti.

It was assigned to Macroscelidini by Dumbacher et al. (2016); and to Elephantulinae by Senut and Pickford (2021).
