Taxonomy
Daeodon was named by Cope (1878) [also said to be 1879].

It was synonymized subjectively with Dinohyus by Tedford et al. (1987), Carroll (1988), Effinger (1998); it was considered a nomen vanum by Albright (1991); it was considered a nomen vanum by Albright (1999).

It was assigned to Perissodactyla by Cope (1878); to Lambdotheriinae by Hay (1902); and to Entelodontidae by Lucas et al. (1998), Foss (2007), Vislobokova (2008), Albright et al. (2019).

E. D. Cope 1878The first pre- molar has two roots; and the canine is of huge proportions. The mandib- ular symphysis is co6ssified, and there are no osseous tuberosities on it nor on the adjacent parts of the rami.
