Taxonomy
Acer pohangense was named by Kim (2008). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Department of Earth Science, Kongju National University, KNUM-980018, a seed/fruit. Its type locality is Duhodong, Pohang, which is in a Miocene fluvial mudstone in the Duho Formation of South Korea.
