Psilomelissa was named by Haeckel (1882) [2b. Tribe: Sethopilida. Open triradiate dyocyrtids. A.Sethopilida with a girdle (Callimitrida). (Sethopilida with the apertural margin smooth or truncate). AI. With the second segment simply latticed. Ib. Second segment with three spines. a+ Obtuse (with the cephalis smooth, not spiny). (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]. It is extant. Its type is Dictyocephalus galeatus. It was considered monophyletic by Haeckel (1882).
