Taxonomy
Schizodiscus was named by Dogiel' and Reshetnyak (1952). Its type is Schizodiscus disymmetricus. It was considered monophyletic by Dogiel' and Reshetnyak (1952).

It was assigned to Radiolaria by Dogiel' and Reshetnyak (1952); and to Spumellaria by Matsuzaki and Suzuki (2014).
