Taxonomy
Peratherium knighti was named by McGrew et al. (1959). Its type locality is Hyopsodus Hill, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Herpetotherium knighti by Rothecker and Storer (1996), Dawson and Constenius (2018).
