Taxonomy

Peratherium knighti was named by McGrew et al. (1959). Its type locality is Hyopsodus Hill, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.

It was recombined as Herpetotherium knighti by Rothecker and Storer (1996), Dawson and Constenius (2018).

Synonyms

Centracodon delicatus was named by Marsh (1872) [nomen oblitum]. It is the type species of Centracodon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Entomacodon minutus by Matthew (1909), Robinson (1968); it was synonymized subjectively with Peratherium knighti by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Herpetotherium knighti by Rothecker and Storer (1996).
Entomacodon minutus was named by Marsh (1872). It is the type species of Entomacodon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Peratherium knighti by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Herpetotherium knighti by Rothecker and Storer (1996).
Peratherium morrisi was named by Gazin (1962).

It was recombined as Peradectes morrisi by Setoguchi (1973); it was synonymized subjectively with Peratherium knighti by Krishtalka and Stucky (1983); it was synonymized subjectively with Herpetotherium knighti by Rothecker and Storer (1996).
