Acrolepis sphaerosideritarum was named by Fritsch (1895). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NMP M 888, 889, part and counterpart.
It was recombined as Watsonichthys sphaerosideritarum by Štamberg (1991); it was recombined as Elonichthys sphaerosideritarum by Štamberg and Zajíc (2008).
