Glyptotherium cylindricum

Taxonomy

Brachyostracon cylindricus was named by Brown (1912). Its type specimen is AMNH 15548, a partial skeleton (complete carapace, cephalic plates, atlas, hyoids, several ribs, a chevron and 20 separate teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Glyptotherium cylindricum by Gillette and Ray (1981), McDonald and Naples (2007), Mead et al. (2007), Cuadrelli et al. (2023).

Synonyms

Boreostracon floridanus was named by Simpson (1929) [holotype not figured in Simpson (1929); later figured in Holmes and Simpson (1931), Figure 14]. Its type specimen is AMNH 23547, an osteoderm, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Seminole Field, which is in a Pleistocene fluvial sandstone in Florida.

It was synonymized subjectively with Glyptotherium cylindricum by Zurita et al. (2018); it was recombined as Glyptotherium floridanum by Marshall et al. (1979), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Gillette and Ray (1981), McDonald and Naples (2007), Albright et al. (2019).
Glyptodon mexicano was named by Cuataparo and Ramirez (1875). Its type specimen is IGM 4006, an osteoderm, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Brachyostracon mexicanus by Brown (1912), Hay (1930); it was recombined as Glyptotherium mexicanum by Marshall et al. (1979), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Gillette and Ray (1981), Carranza-Castaneda and Miller (1987), McDonald and Naples (2007); it was synonymized subjectively with Glyptotherium cylindricum by Zurita et al. (2018).
