Discussion

The epithet verrucatus refers to the verrucate sculpture of the grains.

Taxonomy
Ericipites verrucatus was named by De Benedetti et al. (2023). Its type specimen is MPEF-PA 622, a microspore, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Bosta (CBO) (Paleobotany), which is in a Maastrichtian marginal marine siltstone in the La Colonia Formation of Argentina.

F. De Benedetti et al. 2023Pollen grains in tetrahedral tetrads. Individual grains tricolporoidate/tricolporate, oblate, amb rounded subtriangular to subcircular. Colpi marginate, pore obscure. Exine 1.5–2.0 μm thick, nexine and sexine of similar sizes. Tectumincomplete at themesocolpia forming granules, verrucae, and rugulae of up to 1 μmwide.
