Taxonomy
Palaeocavia humahuaquense was named by Candela et al. (2023). Its type specimen is JUY-P-0351, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Maimará (lower section), which is in a Messinian fluvial sandstone in the Maimará Formation of Argentina.
